Family Weekend - 24 - 25 May 2008

The North Norfolk Railway are planning to hold an all-new Family Weekend over the spring bank holiday weekend of 24 and 25 May 2008.

"Hands-on, have-a-go fun for the kids as they help to run the Poppy Line!"

Bring the family along to this exciting new event and let your children have fun learning how the line works and helping to run the railway.

Meet our characters at our stations and on the trains over the two days.

Sheringham Station

Help Stanley the Stationmaster keep the station spick and span and the steam trains running on time.

Get your hands on the signal levers and learn from Sidney the Signalman.

Have a go at flagging the train away with Gary the Guard.

Ride in the brake van with Greg the Guard.*

There will be facepainting and story telling throughout the day at Sheringham.*

Also on platform 1 is our main souvenir shop, with a large selection of Thomas die cast models and books, North Norfolk Railway souvenirs, 00 gauge model railway items and many other books and DVDs.

Also on this platform is our buffet, with hot and cold drinks, baguettes, sandwiches, hot sausage rolls and pies. We also sell a selection of chocolates, ice creams and home made cakes.

*Activities marked with a star (*) require a valid train ticket or a £1 attractions ticket in order to participate.

Weybourne Station

See how a steam engine works with Dave the Driver and Frank the Fireman.

Make your own special picnic with Cherry Bakewell.

The shop will be open for souvenirs, light refreshments and ice creams.

Holt Station

Help Tracy the Ticket Clerk stamp and issue the tickets.

Make a train collage with Aunty Molly.

There is also a large model railway and the model engineering group will be operating their miniature railway, subject to the availability of volunteers.

The shop will be open for souvenirs, light refreshments and ice creams. There is a large car park at this station.

On The Trains

Other characters will be travelling up and down the line and visiting each station.

Find out what George the Ganger does.

See if you can stop Morgan the Railway Cat from causing trouble everywhere he goes!

We will have two steam engines running throughout the day, providing a service every 45 minutes. A diesel train will operate at the end of each day and a diesel shunter will be pulling the brake van up and down the platform at Sheringham

Our great value day rover tickets give the freedom of the line for the whole day and mean you don't have to pay any extra for using any of the other attractions!

Fares

Standard fares apply for this event.

If you purchase day rover tickets, they are valid all day for travel on all trains between any of our stations, but a ticket is not a guarantee of a seat. Rover tickets also give free access on the day of issue to all of the railway's public attractions, except the William Marriott Museum at Holt Station, where there is a small charge for entry. The museum is run by our supporting charity, the M&GN Joint Railway Society.

Access to the attractions at Sheringham station is available with a valid train ticket. For those wishing to take advantage of the activities on offer at Sheringham but not wanting a train ride, a special "attractions ticket" will be available for £1 per person (children under 5 remain free).

Attractions tickets provide access to all of the public attractions at Sheringham station only, plus unlimited brake van rides. They are not valid for travel to any of our other stations although they may be upgraded at the ticket office. No family attractions tickets are available.

Family travel tickets are available for 2 adults and 2 children or 3 adults and 1 child.

Children under 5 travel free. See the fares page for details.

Thomas Events

Statement from the Managing Director:

"The North Norfolk Railway has been unable to conclude an agreement with ‘HIT Entertainment Group’ for a licence to hold Thomas events for the foreseeable future.

We, together with a number of other steam railways in the same position, are disappointed with this, and the position that HIT entertainment has taken.

However we are pleased to announce that we will be holding a special Family Weekend on the 24th & 25th May 2008."

See the top of this page for details of this event which promises to be an exciting new experience."

Please note that all train services and attractions are subject to amendment or cancellation without notice. The NNR cannot be held responsible for any inconvenience or disappointment caused.
