Attractions immediately accessible from
the Railway -
Sheringham
which is the location of our major station. The station is in the centre
of this small town. -
Holt,
our western terminus. The station is on the outskirts of this award winning Georgian
town, about a mile from the town centre. The Eastern Counties bus service X4 provides
an hourly service to the town or, in the peak season, the Holt Flyer, a London
Routemaster Bus, meets our Steam trains and will take you into the centre of the
town. (This facility is not operated by the railway and an additional charge is
payable.) -
Sheringham
Park and Weybourne Heath. The railway passes Sheringham
Park and it is an enjoyable walk from Weybourne back to
Sheringham through the Park. A guide to this walk and
other walks in the Park is displayed at both stations.
A leaflet covering these walks is for sale at the Sheringham
Station Shop. The railway offers single tickets to facilitate
this type of walk.
-
Kelling
Heath. A renowned Norfolk moorland beauty spot. The
flowers are a delight to see throughout the year. The
yellow gorse of winter and spring merges with the bluebells
and primroses of spring and summer. Later in the year
the poppies and the mauve of the heathers are a visual
delight. The railway has a halt at Kelling Heath (but
note the train only stops there on request) from which
a number of walks can be taken, including the Nature Trail.
These walks are also easily accessible from Weybourne
Station.
-
Coast Walk. Enjoy a gentle walk
from Weybourne to Sheringham along the coastal path, a distance of some 3-4 miles. -
The studio of the renowned local artist, Martin
Sexton, is but a short stroll from Sheringham station. The gallery contains
a large selection of original watercolour paintings, greetings cards and signed
prints depicting East Anglian landscapes. It is always advisable to telephone
before making your journey. An alternative
method of travel is Huff
& Puff, cycle one way and let the 'train take the strain' on the uphill
stretch back. Kelling By Cycle (and Huff &
Puff with the North Norfolk Railway) Tel: 07788 132909 (out of season 01263
