Work with the North Norfolk Railway

Due to the retirement of the present incumbent, the North Norfolk Railway wishes to appoint a Commercial Manager. The position is a senior role reporting to the General Manager working alongside the management team covering Engineering, Operations and Infrastructure management.

The candidate will ideally have worked in supervisory role(s) and will be a motivated, self-starting individual with good vision on how to profitably grow a thriving business and able to demonstrate good management skills. Railway experience is preferred but not an essential requirement to do this job.

An understanding of retail and catering business is an important asset as the post holder will manage the operation of the successful North Norfolkman dining trains which is a key growth segment of the business. The Railway stages a number of major events each year and the post holder will be responsible for developing, organising and managing these. An understanding of the importance of having a profitable enterprise is a key requirement in each of the business segments in this portfolio.

The Commercial Manager is directly responsible for the Railway’s Retail, Catering, Education, Marketing and Administrative budgets together with a permanent staff of 15 people. As with all heritage railways there are many volunteers who work in all areas of the Company. The post holder will know how to manage staff and volunteers and be able to get the best out of both paid and unpaid staff.

The individual will be an innovative thinker who needs no encouragement to work ‘outside the box’ and can bring a fresh approach to the range of existing railway events. The driving force will be the profitable growth of a £2m business portfolio.

The post will involve weekend and bank holiday working as well as an on-call commitment. A competitive salary and benefits will be offered.

Applications are invited by the 11th January 2019 accompanied by a full CV to:
