Autumn Steam Gala

The North Norfolk Railway's second steam gala in 2009 is the annual autumn gala. Once again a large locomotive line-up is planned, featuring at least three visiting engines in addition to the home fleet.

Firstly our summer visiting locomotive will be staying until after the steam gala. GWR 56xx 0-6-2T 6619 will be making another visit from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from mid July until mid September.

GWR 4-4-0 3440 City of Truro - Copyright David BallardThe second visiting locomotive is also a returning engine. Owned by the National Railway Museum, the famous GWR 4-4-0 3440 City of Truro will be making its second visit to the NNR during most of September. The locomotive is normally based on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.

N2 0-6-2T 1744 - Copyright Rick EborallThe third visiting locomotive is attending specially for the steam gala. N2 0-6-2T 1744 will be a perfect match for the Quad-Art set. It has only recently returned to service after an extensive overhaul. This locomotive is normally based on the Great Central Railway.

We are also hoping to source a fourth visiting engine. These locos will join the home-based fleet of J15 0-6-0 65462, N7 0-6-2T 69621 and 0-6-0ST 1982 Ring Haw.

Rolling Stock

Most of our operational British Railways mark 1 carriages will be in service during this event, including our crimson and cream dining set.

Quad-Art set hauled by N7 0-6-2T 69621 - Copyright Steve AllenJoining these carriages will be the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway Society's immaculately restored Quad-Art set. These wooden-bodied articulated vehicles will look spectacular paired up with the N2 locomotive, a recreation of how suburban services working out of King's Cross would have looked.

There is also the possibility of running some non-passenger trains once again.
