The North Norfolk Railway Operating Department has a vacancy for the position of Operations Assistant. This is a full time position (average of 40 hours per week) which includes weekday, weekend and Bank Holiday working. The role requires flexibility with working hours, including some early starts and late finishes in order to meet the operational requirements of the business. The role will primarily be based at Sheringham but may include working at any location on the railway. This position is a safety critical role. Reporting to the Operating Superintendent, the position involves being involved in all aspects of the day-to-day [...]
The North Norfolk Railway is delighted to announce that it will restart its public services from Monday 12th April, in line with government restrictions. As in 2020 passengers will travel in their own private compartment which will be treated with an organic anti-microbial protective shield against COVID-19 to keep all our visitors safe. Other COVID-safe measures will be in place, such as social distancing and hand sanitising stations. These measures proved very successful and popular during the periods when the railway was able to operate in 2020. Takeaway tea, coffee and cake will be available from the railway’s refreshment [...]
As the time for reopening the railway nears, we would like to acknowledge the very considerable financial assistance we have received during the extended lockdown from:- The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) The National Lottery Heritage Fund (NHLF) The North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) and also our many private donors. An announcement will be made on Friday 26th February setting out when the railway will be reopening for 2021 services, so please watch this space!
Traditionally, we have run Mince Pie Specials from just after Christmas in to the New Year, but unfortunately this isn’t a normal year, as you will know. Because of the current climate with regards to the COVID-19 Pandemic and with news of a new strain of the virus being discovered in the UK together with the increasing rate of transmission, the Railway has regretfully taken the decision to cancel all of the Mince Pie Specials for 2020. We are sorry for any disappointment that this may cause you if you were intending to book, but we have taken this decision [...]
The second season of Norfolk Lights Express trains is now well underway. Sadly however, some of the visitors that had planned to ride on the train are now unable to do so as a result of Tier restrictions, which means that a limited number of seats are becoming available on some evenings. If you have not yet booked for this wonderful experience of light and sound, please do check on our website for late notice availability. If you are local to Sheringham you may wish to ask at the station 30 minutes before the train is due to depart as [...]
The North Norfolk Railway continues to operate a COVID-safe experience, with all appropriate social distancing guidelines and reduced visitor numbers in place. Since reopening in July, we have worked hard to implement revised timetables, apply social distancing measures including the use of coaches with individual compartments and treating all our trains, stations and toilets with an organic anti-microbial protective shield against COVID-19 all to keep visitors safe. The Government has confirmed that both lights events and Santa grottos can still go ahead. The Railway is in an area that has been designated as Tier 2 in the new post-national [...]
UPDATE: Following the Prime Minister’s press conference this evening, we are now in the process of evaluating our position and the effects that the new announcement will have on our services. We would appreciate your time and consideration until early in the coming week for our management team to re-evaluate our winter services. We will update all of our booked passengers as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience at what is a very difficult time for everyone. -ORIGINAL POST- Just like you, we are presently awaiting the words from the Prime Minister's press conference this evening. We [...]
Sponsor a Christmas Tree! This year, we will have 100 Christmas Trees in our Grotto at Weybourne for our Santa Special passengers to enjoy! Because of the year we have had, we realise that many people have had friends and family pass away, and we'd like to offer the opportunity for anybody who would like to dedicate one of our trees to someone. However, you don't need to dedicate a tree to someone you've lost. Perhaps you know a frontline NHS worker, or even a company that has really helped you out this year. All of the trees will be [...]
The North Norfolk Railway has been awarded £360,000 from the Government as part of a £1.57bn injection from the Culture Recovery Fund which has been set up to help Britain's world-class cultural, arts and heritage sites bounce back from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This money will go a long way in helping us to recover from the incredibly different year this has been.
Along with all other heritage railways the North Norfolk Railway has faced an uphill battle to survive during the Covid-19 crisis with the loss of all revenue during the closure period between March and July. We would like to acknowledge, and thank, the National Lottery Heritage Emergency Fund, for their substantial financial support in enabling the Railway to recommence operations in July and to continue operations into October. Without this support it is difficult to see how we could have resumed operations in 2020.
