Advanced booking is essential. Click here to book online or call 01263 820800 to book by telephone. Please make sure you have your confirmation email or booking reference number when you arrive for your trip.

Infants under 1 year old may travel free on an adult’s lap. All children over 1 year old must have a valid ticket.

Buggies/pushchairs may be safely stored at Sheringham whilst you are on your journey.

A £1 admin fee applies to all bookings. Please ensure all the information you provide is correct as a £5 administration fee may be charged for alterations to bookings.

Group bookings, for ten people or more travelling together, can only be taken by phone or in person, we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Please inform us in advance if any passengers travelling are disabled so that we can make every effort to accommodate them.

We regret that dogs cannot be accommodated on these trains. 

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I catch the train?
All of our Norfolk Lights Express trains depart from and return to Sheringham Station.

Where does the train go?
The train travels to the full length of the line to Holt Station and back again to Sheringham Station.

How long is the experience?
The whole experience lasts approximately 1 hour 20 minutes. This includes the train journey to and from Holt Station as well as a 20 minute wait at Holt Station.

What is The Norfolk Lights Express?
The Norfolk Lights Express is a brand new event for the Railway and East Anglia. It is a steam train which is decorated on the exterior with multi-coloured lights which shine out onto the line-side, lighting up the surrounding landscapes. Whilst travelling there will be an immersive experience on-board that links with the light show. There will also be light-up festive scenes nestled along the line for you to see. As the display will be different on each side of the train, you will be asked to swap sides when the train arrives at Holt, ready for the return journey.

Are there more than one train a day?
Some of our dates have multiple trains. Please check our Norfolk Lights Express timetable for more information.

What time should I arrive?
We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before the departure time.

Do we have allocated seats?
Yes. Please check in with our Meet & Greeter who will be on Sheringham Station Platform. They will be able to inform you where you are sitting.

Are there any concessions available?
There are no concessions available on The Norfolk Lights Express. Each ticket costs £15.00. This applies to children and adults.

I have a baby under 1 do I have to pay for that baby?
Infants under 1 year old may travel free on an adult’s lap. All children over 1 year old must have a valid ticket.

Will I see Santa?
The Norfolk Lights Express does not include a visit to Santa, however we do have our traditional Santa Specials running as well. Details of this event can be found here.

What happens if I have to cancel my tickets on the day?
Tickets are not refundable but may be transferred to another date, depending on availability and providing 7 days’ notice has been given to the railway. An administration fee of £5 will be charged. Please call our booking office on 01263 820800 in this instance.

Will the event be cancelled due to bad weather?
The events will continue regardless of weather conditions except in extreme circumstances – in other words if the weather is simply not very nice the event will still go ahead. However, if we have to cancel an event if it is unsafe to proceed (e.g. extreme weather) visitors will be offered an alternative date/time if possible. No refunds will be offered simply if the weather is inclement.

Is the experience wheelchair accessible?
Yes it is accessible however due to the historic nature of our carriages we can only take up to two wheelchairs on the train at a time. Please telephone our booking office on 01263 820800 to discuss your requirements.

Can I take the pushchair on the train?
Unfortunately we cannot take pushchairs on The Norfolk Lights Express. However you are more than welcome to leave the pushchairs with our staff at Sheringham Station who will lock them away after the train has departed.

Can we take photos?
Whilst the train is moving we ask that no photos/videos are taken to ensure that all of our customers have the best experience. Once the train is in the station, you are more than welcome to take photos/videos.

Can we bring our own food?
Unfortunately you cannot consume your own food on The Norfolk Lights Express, however a complete range of refreshments including a licensed bar will be available on board.

I’m gluten free. Do you have anything suitable?
Yes we have gluten free alternatives available.

Can I bring my dog?
Apologies but no dogs, other than assistance dogs, are allowed on The Norfolk Lights Express.
